London Nagarathar Sangam

'The London Nagarathar sangam', (Popularly known as LNS), was established by Mr Nachaippa Thiagarajan of Kallal , on April 2004 in London. He felt there was a strong need for a Sangam to be setup in London locally, so all the nagarathars in London can get together, share their thoughts, celebrate nagarathar festivals and expose our children to the rich and traditional nagarathar culture.

  • The Sangam and the key objectives are:
  • As a platform to Socialize, share the thoughts, happiness among all our Nagarathars
  • Promote our rich Nagarathar culture and its values among all members and children
  • Celebrate our chettiar festivals with pride and happiness.
  • In 2009 LNS Committee put forward a proposal to the members for Contribution towards educational, marriage needs of our fellow Nagarathars in India which was accepted and added to the list of key objectives.

28th,29th Aug 2011 : Nagarathar Virunthu 2011 Colwick, hosted by Mr Muthalagappan and Family

Originally from chettinad, known for their travel far and wide, thirst for business, hospitality and philanthropy are the Nagarathars. One man from Virayachilai near Pudukottai, Chettinad, to get the Queen’s seal for those words today is Mr Muthalagappan.
Do I call it a traditional banquet, a fun gathering, karaoke night or Peacock palace, I am not sure, for it were all of them. It was the Nagarathar Virunthu 2011 at Colwick. Chettiars who attended the function lost track of time. Day turned to night and the energy of the host and the guests remained high.
Food was excellent. Did the cooks get trained at chettinad..... No!.. they must be from that place to just remind us of our grandparents. The fact is they are the team of experienced chefs trained in preparing Nagarathar food and all types of meals for hotels under vigilance of their master Mr Muthalagappan. The great banana leaves just added aroma and aroused the feeling of life in India. Food from different parts were served, which was just the finest. Variety of cold and hot drinks was flowing from bottomless pots all through the day.
The host family kept the entertainment on top of their list. Old and young enjoyed the games and dance. Probably everyone must have burnt down all the calories consumed. Lots of different activities kept everyone on their toes. Gifts were given to all winners by Mr Muthalagappan himself.
Members of London Nagarathar Sangam, would like to thank Mr Muthalagappan, his family and everyone who rendered a hand, for hosting a successful memorable gathering. This is the best till the next. Three cheers to the family.
